Today’s blog post will highlight resources for International Postdocs. This blog post was written by Amy Rapp, Assistant Director, Graduate Career Development (amyrapp@uchicago.edu). In this blog, we will highlight many of the services offered for various needs of International Postdocs and give you scenarios in which you’d seek out some of these specific offerings.
First, here are some of the different areas and offerings on campus where an International Postdoc can go when they need support:

Postdoc 1: International Career-focused Postdoctoral Researcher
- ELI: I’d definitely join the weekly extracurricular activities as a way to improve my English and meet new people during my time at UChicago
- International House: I am interested in the Language & Culture tables at I- House as a way to network with other international postdocs
- Spiritual Life: What a great opportunity to connect with my faith community while away from home.
- OIA: I’d sign up for an informational session about Tax information for International Scholars
- UChicagoGRAD: I’d meet with a Career Advisor, attend one of the many career events, and research jobs & fellowships through GRAD
- I’d reach out to Candace at Gallagher with any questions about my health insurance
- Safety & Security: First, I’d download the UChicago Safe App. Then I’d use University Shuttles to getaround campus and beyond
Postdoc 2: International Academia-focused Postdoctoral Researcher
- ELI – I’d join the reading group to improve my English and meet new people during my time at UChicago
- International House – Global Mentorship Network to receive some guidance from a fellow student
- Spiritual Life – 20 Minutes Still Meditation to take a pause
- OIA – Advising appointment to ask questions about my visa status
- UChicagoGRAD – I’d meet with a Career Advisor, attend the Academic Job Market Series and research fellowships through GRAD
- Mental Health- I’d take advantage of Perspectives to check in on my mental health
- First, I’d download the UChicago Safe App. Then I’d use University Shuttles to get around campus and beyond
